Industrial Plating is the viability of Palladium?
The industrial use of palladium plates has recently been an excellent replacement for gold plating applications. Although they are visually different, as gold is yellow gold, while palladium is white gold, palladium has been widely used because of their difference cost. The palladium price is almost gold. The trick is to have thick deposits of palladium and a thin layer of gold to the contact points or connectors.
Palladium, the chemical element
Palladium is a silvery white metal that is rare. It was discovered by William Hyde Wollaston in 1803. He named the asteroid Pallas, so palladium name. As a chemical element is Pd with an atomic number of 46. It belongs to the PGM or group metals platinum, with platinum, ruthenium, iridium, rhodium and osmium. They are grouped accordingly, as they share the same chemical properties, however, palladium has the point lower melting and is the least dense among the other equally valuable metals in the group. Palladium is the element that is electrically stable, heat resistant, resistant to blur and resistant to chemical erosion, too. This is a secure storage medium for hydrogen and hydrogen isotopes, absorbing up to 900 times its own volume of hydrogen.
These features account for its widespread use palladium in the manufacture of multiple capacitors ceramic layers, televisions, computers, mobile phones, low voltage electrical contacts, and the plated component. Palladium Plating
Coating industrial metal palladium is suitable for any applications of palladium-plated sheet, because it prevents rust. Does not react with oxygen to form oxide even at room temperature. The melting point of palladium in 2830F does is excellent in the post-planting for connector applications involving insulating ceramic firing.
Industrial palladium liner is an excellent option in the application of electrical contacts because palladium plates has a Knoop hardness of 400 while that gold has a maximum of 200. Used in applications with point or sliding wear contacts. industrial metal plating palladium is also considered in applications that require non-magnetic performance. It is the choice of anti-diffusion layer and is a viable replacement for gold in the non-magnetic and non-oxidizing plating applications. Standard welding procedures for gold are also applicable to palladium as they have done the same weldability characteristics.
The Palladium Coating Process
