The original idea of the Digital Display Working Group (DDWG) DVI (video interface digital), has dramatically altered the picture quality of display devices, from LCD screens to computer monitors to projectors.

The need DVI

Using this method, all pixels in the source coincide properly with the screen. This allows for noise and distortion-free display.

Technology DVI

The DVI uses a format based on serial Pnnel made a transition minimized differential signaling (TMDS).
All a DVI cables (red, green and blue and the other a clock signal) to transmit 24 bits for each pixel. At intervals, the images are sent picture online line without any form packages. Another advantage of DVI is that it uses no compression, which is a problem affecting older technologies.

DVI Links

A DVI connection can support a maximum resolution of 2.6 megapixels at 60 Hz, but has the ability to use other links if resolution will be much higher. Thus there are two modes, the only link to the monitors that require less than 2.6 megapixels, and dual-link mode, so they need more megapixels. The dual-link mode is also sued when more than 24-bit pixels are required.

DVI Connectors

Unlike LDVS and Open LDI, provides support for DVI digital and analog transmissions. DVI connectors are thus classified in the following: DVI-A (DVI analogue) DVI-I (DVI Digital and Analog) and DVI-D DVI (Digital). The DVI-D can, in some cases, working with HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface).

DVI Specifications

The minimum clock frequency is 25.175Mhz DVI, and its maximum is set at 165MHz. Dual Link mode, however, the limit is set only by cable. The pixels per clock cycle for an individual is 1, and the double bond 2. The bits per pixel is set at 24, while in dual mode is 48.

DVI Display Modes

For single link, the following displays are possible:
HDTV (1920 × 1080) (60Mhz), UXGA (1600 × 1200) (60Mhz), SXGA (1280 × 1024) (159 MHz), WXGA + (1440 x 900) (107 MHz) and WQUXGA (3840 × 2400) (164 MHz)

For links doubles:

QXGA (2048 × 1536) (2 × 170 MHz), HDTV (1920 × 1080) (2 × 126 MHz); WQXGA (2560 × 1600) (2x174 MHz); WQXGA (2560 × 1600) (2x135 MHz) and (WQUXGA (3840 × 2400) (2x159 MHz)
