School Door Signs

The International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT) District Council 46 has represented workers in their Union for decades and recent years have continued to participate as active members of the community through various outreach programs.

In recent years, IUPAT has urged its members to participate more actively in the community with members to remind campaign. District Council 46, located at 130 Toro Road in the Keele and Finch (North York, Ontario) area, has recently taken part in the Firgrove Community Learning Center Back to School Program. The event which took place on 8 September 2009, included a free barbeque to all attendees. As part of the Back to School Back-pack program, District Council 46 and its contribution contractors and suppliers delivered 1000 backpacks with useful school children from JK to grade 12. Leftover bags were given to other communities in need. Moreover, the Painter's Union provided five individual grants of $ 1,000, along with the donation of $ 500 to Women Firgrove Group. The event was attended Firgrove community, community leaders and IUPAT Representatives. Toronto Councilman, Mr. Gord Perks, also attended the event representing the City of Toronto, together with officials from the office of MP Judy Sgro. Thanks to generous donations Participants IUPAT DC 46 members, contractors, community leaders and volunteers, the event was a success in the community.

IUPAT ambition is both the service our members and our community. We intend to continue to play an active role in the community of Ontario through various projects, charitable donations, and programs much like the Back to School Program.

IUPAT District Council 46 is composed of more than 7,000 union members across Ontario, employed in various offices, such as:

• Painting and decoration
• Plasterboard and plaster finish
• Manufacturing
• Glaziers and glass
• Finished outer insulation
• Workers employed in hazardous materials

District Council 46 and the unions local affiliates offer many services to its members including:

• Provide medical, dental, and life insurance benefits
• Negotiation of collective bargaining agreements
• Facilitate the training of apprentices
• Provide retirement pension plans, and
• From democracy in the workplace

Moreover, DC 46 union representing workers outside the building. This includes employees involved in manufacturing castings and manufacturing facilities of windows, doors, signs, bus shelters and billboards.

We intend to continue alliances with trade councils of subsidiaries, such as:

• Provincial Building and Construction Trades Council of Ontario
• Central Ontario Building Trades Council
• Toronto York District Council of Labor
• Hamilton-Brantford Building Construction Council
• Waterloo, Wellington, Dufferin, Gray Building and Construction Council
• Sault Ste. Marie Ontario Building and Trades Council Building
• Northeastern Ontario Building and Construction Trades Council (Sudbury)
• Essex and Kent Counties Building & Construction Trades Council
• Northwestern Ontario Building Trades Council (Thunder Bay)
• Sarnia Building Trades Council
• Ottawa and Hull Construction Trades Council
• San Lorenzo Quinte Building Trades Council
• Ontario Federation of Labor

In addition to these trade councils, the Council of Ontario Painters (OCP) of the IUPAT also in collaboration with employers' organizations include:

• Ontario Painting Contractors Association
• Interior Systems Contractors Association
• Acoustical Association of Ontario
• Architectural Glass and Metal Contractors Association
• Electric Power Systems Contractors Association
• Residential Painting Contractors of Ontario

Membership requires a fee of administrative process that is also paid by monthly installments of up to 6 months in advance. Note that this payment is tax deductible at the end of the year.
